Hope and Willingness
The Gifts of Depression and Apathy
The timeless lesson of limitations is to transcend limitations…
When feeling hopeless, you feel small and incapable. At that moment, you don’t feel connected to anything greater; it’s just your Self against the world. There is no help out there. “In low spirits” means you are not feeling Spirit. Spirit is, by definition, invisible, vast, not completely knowable. Any amount of connection to that Spirit is both the purpose and the solution to Depression.
Soul has access to all power, it is always in control, and it never gives up. The ultimate lesson of Apathy is to confront the limits of Ego and Personal Will to see that you are not the doer at all. Your birth, your breath, every good break—all of that is power you enjoy but don’t possess. The timeless lesson of Depression is to transcend limitations of body, mind, and time in order to be helped by that Source of all things.
When you can’t see the beauty, the opportunity, the love, the God all around you, staring into the dark nothingness for a long while forces a change in perspective. A glimmer of light somewhere may be undeniable, like staring at the sky until you see the first lone star appear. When that happens, Hope may return—if you can find what previously seemed impossible, anything else could also be possible. So maybe there is Hope, or there is a way, or there is a God. You didn’t make the star appear; it happened. You don’t make your heartbeat; it beats for you. Can you appreciate its beating, the gift of it, and accept that now as well as when it stops? Accepting things as they are, trusting what is and will be, allowing for the entire universe to take care of you and everything—these are the elevated truths of the Soul. We are born with needs and the ability to meet them in a Universe that is fully able to take care of us.
